Auto Mechanic Classes

In this section we want to give you an overview of the basic auto mechanic classes offered in the majority of auto schools, and then some of the specialty classes you can take too.

Lets first look at the basic classes that are contained in most basic auto repair courses, for both community and trade schools.

Engine Service Class

Since the engine is the heart of the car,this will be one of the first classes you will take. This class teaches students about engine parts and their functionality, you also learn to disassemble and reassemble an engine. You will also learn about the different types of engines, how to repair and maintain them in accordance with the manufactures specifications.

Electrical Systems Class

Electrical systems are probably one of the more tricky systems to master. You will learn how the various electrical components interconnect with one another such as the starter system, the internal computer system, the electronic ignition and more. Trouble shooting and tracing electrical problems is a challenge you can practice mastering in the classroom.

This is one of the more stimulating classes you will take.

Brake System Class

In this class you will learn how to diagnose and fix problems in drum brakes, disc brakes and disc rotors. The hydraulic system is another part of this class you must learn as well as current anti-lock brake systems.

Steering System Class

The last of the basic auto mechanics classes is the steering system class. This class breaks down the steering mechanism into a section on wheel alignments, suspension systems and steering column mechanisms.

In this next section we will list some of the classes that are considered intermediate classes, we will not include explanations because the class itself is self explanatory.

  • And Yes, Even Nascar Mechanics

AES Certification

There are eight different courses you can take, if you do take all eight and pass you are classified as a Master Automotive Technician.

Auto Dealers and Repair Shop Classes

You will find that auto dealers and repair shops have their own in house classes you are required to take. Lets take Ford for example, they may want a new auto mechanic to take a specific class for a product that is exclusive to Fords. If they want you to do things a certain way for their product and their signing the paychecks, then so be it.
